Two experiments were conducted to isolate the trait-anxiety-reducing effects of transcendental meditation (TM) from expectation of relief and the concomitant ritual of sitting twice daily. Results suggested that both able-bodied and disabled students preferred disabled counselors for discussing personal problems.
