A survey of the 928 1979-80 English doctorate recipients revealed that 62% had full-time teaching positions, although only 45% of males and 37% of females received full-time tenure track positions; 11% had part-time teaching appointments or postdoctoral fellowships; and 13% had alternative work. Proposed is a graduate program based on the Master of Philosophy degree plan of the University of London, for college science faculty who have not obtained a PhD degree.
