Describes the use of drama with ten dropouts from 16 to 20 years old in a reading program at the University of Alabama. (MB)

Pre- and posttests of 268 children from the fifth, sixth and seventh grades showed that 179 gained 1 to 5 years in reading grade levels after a 4 1/2- week remedial reading program in a camp setting. Followup revealed that none of the participants became school dropouts, and attitudes and achievement were improved. (NH)

Described is a two-week summer institute with 57 Ohio teachers in grades K-12. The teachers were given experiences in problem solving to help them broaden perceptions of real problem solving. Sixteen problem-solving strategies and four illustrative problems are included, and teachers' evaluative comments are discussed. (MNS)

In a six-week study involving seventh- to ninth-grade students in a summer corrective reading program, neither the holistic nor the subskill treatment had a significant advantage in improving student reading comprehension or attitude toward reading. (JT)

To combat summer learning loss among remedial readers, teachers and consultants in the Omaha, Nebraska, Title I program designed a series of comic-book reading units and mailed them to students' homes. Parents were pleased with the project and it appeared that less reading skill had been lost by September. (SJL)
