Insufficient predictive validity on academic variables of the Structure-of-Intellect Learning Abilities Test Gifted Screening Form (SOI-LA-GSF) was found with 172 gifted grade four and 109 gifted grade seven students. The ability for high future performance in English, French, Physics, and Mathematics was examined in 13-year-old students in 11 British comprehensive schools. Among results are that most high performers on 0-level examinations were also nominated by subject teachers as high performers. (Author/MC)

It is concluded, among other things, that although GIFT criterion related validity is modest, it predicts creativity about as well as other more complicated instruments, and its reliability is much better than teacher ratings or nominations; and that it also appears to have international and cross cultural face validity. The study involving 298 third through sixth graders examined a combination of the teacher rating/product evaluation methods for identifying gifted Mexican American children and determined its relative merits over the method now in predominant use (measurement of students' IQ scores). (SBH)
