Describes a research project which examined the perceptions of junior college instructors toward the sociology profession. Questionnaires were sent to 72 institutions in the United States. Results indicate that the discipline of sociology is not meeting the needs of instructors who are acutely aware of their professional loneliness. (RM)

A study designed to assess knowledge of biostatistics and epidemiology relevant to medical literature and administered to internists and medical house staff at a teaching hospital is assessed. A survey of teachers reveals that major causes of stress are: trying to work satisfactorily with each of their students, managing their time, and handling relationships with their peers and superiors. If teachers clearly understand what factors are causing stress, they can cope with it more successfully. (JD)

Student affairs professionals were surveyed for opinions regarding the changing role of women in student affairs. Title changes representative of power-prestige changes are noted. Seventy-four U.S. male academic social scientists provided career stage data that were analyzed and compared. The active publishers had a less varied career but continued their research beyond retirement.
