The Antiracist School Counseling Checklist: An Evaluation Tool for School Counselors
Jaimie Stickl Haugen1; Kenya G. Bledsoe2; Pamela N. Harris1; Sabina Razak1
Professional School Counseling, v29 n1a 2025
School counselors are in a unique position to address inequities and systemic racism in schools by engaging in antiracist practices. Yet there is a need for practical evaluation tools to support school counselors with dismantling racism and fostering equitable school environments. We introduce the Antiracist School Counseling Checklist (ASCC) as a comprehensive self-evaluation tool that school counselors can use to examine their antiracist school counseling practice. Grounded in the extant literature and instrument development best practices, the ASCC encompasses three domains of awareness, knowledge, and skills to support school counselors in using data-driven approaches to implement, evaluate, and enhance antiracist interventions within their comprehensive school counseling program. We discuss the development of the ASCC and implications for school counseling practice and research.
