Describes a study in which a survey was completed by high school seniors to assess the impact of working on their academic achievement. The results suggest that some students find it difficult to balance work and school. Implications for school counselors are also given. (CH)

Of 157 grade 11-12 students surveyed in Alberta, most worked part-time. Most working students focused on making money and devoted minimal time to schoolwork. Of 156 first-year college students surveyed, 37% were employed part-time; 15% of these (and 30% of education majors) were gaining career-related work experience. (SV)

Results of a study of 75 student teachers, who were evaluated by their cooperating teachers and university supervisors, provide no evidence that moonlighting reduces the effectiveness of student teachers in the classroom.
