Described rural-urban differences in health care utilization between 1971 and 1977 in 3,628 Manitoba elderly. Despite disparities in reported income and in the distribution of physician resources, ambulatory care use did not differ greatly. Performed a principal axes factor anlaysis on Mini-Mult item data obtained from 249 medical and psychiatric patients. Six factors were extracted. Nonoverlapping summative scales were constructed and their reliabilities evaluated. The scales were recommended for applications in which it is desirable to avoid excessive item overlap. (JAC)
