It is proposed that language programs be better organized to coordinate instruction, experiences, and materials among the various languages taught, and that applied linguistics can provide the common denominator both in teacher education and for students to develop competence in more than one language. An emphasis on cultural history, through the integration of novels, poetry, drama, and other literary genres with traditional history, may form the best introduction to history for many secondary and college-level students. The experience of Iona College in implementing a curriculum integrating technology with science in a liberal arts curriculum is outlined.
