Forty-two families with children in transition to early and mid-adolescence were interviewed in a follow-up study of parent-child agreement in beliefs concerning the child, and of children's awareness of parental beliefs. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency with which elementary teachers taught science over a four-week period, and which teaching strategies they utilized during that time frame one year after extensive inservice training. In a follow-up study, it was found that children with good early phonological awareness had well-developed lexical and sublexical reading and spelling procedures.
