Environmental health personnel in San Bernardino County, California have moved from the traditional position under a medical public health officer to a position in county government. This reorganization has led to more positive recognition for sanitarians, increased benefits to the public, and improved coordination with other departments. (BT)

The ability of various treatment processes, such as oxidation ponds, chemical coagulation and filtration, and the soil mantle, to remove the agents of infectious disease found in waste water is discussed.
