An EPA survey of the largest school districts in the nation revealed that over 50 percent have not inspected for asbestos and two-thirds have failed to notify parents adequately. Seven steps are therefore provided for successful asbestos abatement, in anticipation of tougher regulations now under consideration. (TE)

Factors that have contributed to the sluggish evolution of an adequate planning methodology in environmental health programs at the local level are detailed. The student health aide program of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln is a paid, auxiliary, trained health position in dorms, co-ops, and Greek houses, with personnel evaluated on the assistance provided for any physical, personal, social, or environmental health concerns students may have in accordance with the aide's training. A five-day workshop was successful in fulfilling its prime objective, development of a competency-based curriculum for veterinary public health and preventive medicine (VPH & PM). The model now may be used to re-evaluate and, where necessary, revise existing curriculums. (LBH)

The experience over 13 years of one school of public health in preparing physicians for the field of maternal and child health is described. Some 256 of the 292 graduates have remained in community health work. Of the 292 graduates, 106 are engaged in some teaching responsibilities. (Editor/LBH)
