Studied changes in college students' perceptions of college environment after 4, 10, and 14 years. Findings indicated freshmen intensified the strength of their perceptions concerning academic excellence after four years. Trends showed a shift to the conservatism of the past with a renewed interest in scholarship. (Author)

Evangelical colleges have been unaffected by the academic revolution in which faculties, organized into departments, have increasingly obtained hegemony over a large and growing portion of the academic enterprise. The need for the tertiary college, a post-16 institution offering a wide range of vocational and nonvocational, full-time, part-time and sandwich courses in preparation for work, leisure or higher education, is advocated. Presents findings of a questionnaire administered to Black and White undergraduate university students. Symbolic racism and opposition to desegregation were widespread among Whites. Dissatisfaction with the status quo and campus racism were reported by Blacks. Suggests need for improved ways of measuring racial attitudes. (MK)

In terms of personal characteristics and campus perceptions, adult students are a diverse group. In general they do not perceive the college environment to be supportive or to encourage personal development. Relevant investigations are summarized, methodological problems are discussed, and directions for future research are suggested. Using a sample of 460 university students, multiple discriminant analysis indicates that of four variable sets (including perceptions of university goals, academic climate, academic environment, and academic alienation), perceptions of climate and feelings of alienation exert more influence on students' attachment to the university.
