The effects of two levels of counselor similarity and expertness and two types of clients' problems on perceptions of the counselor's competence were tested in this analogue study. Results indicated that suggestions of expertness led to higher evaluations of counselors for both problems. (Author)

In this survey, author finds that satisfied students are more willing to discuss problems with their residence hall counselors than less satisfied students and that females were more positive about the concept of residence counseling and often described their counselors differently than did males. Investigated whether a counselor who was mirror imaging a congruent arm and leg position of a client would significantly increase the client's perception of the counselor's empathy.
