The literature evaluating the effectiveness of continuing education in dentistry is reviewed critically. Levels of effectiveness of continuing dental education reported by the studies has tended to be low, and no distinctions in effectiveness can be made among different educational methods. (CH)

The format of the final examinations in Conservative Dentistry in the Dental Schools of Great Britain and Ireland was investigated by means of a questionnaire sent to each of the dental schools in each country. Results indicate that male and female dental students differ in general sensitivity to ethical issues, but not in recognition of issues of care or in moral reasoning.
