The prevalence of anxiety and depression in clinic patients, residents' ability to identify these affects, and accuracy of patients' responses to simple questions about them were investigated at a University of Virginia clinic. Results of two certification examinations were analyzed for the cohorts of physicians who had taken in-training examinations as first, second, and third year residents.
