Reichardt, Charles S.; And Others – Evaluation Review, 1995
The use of multiple regression for analyzing data from the regression-discontinuity design (RDD) is examined, considering the effects of random measurement error in the pretest, treatment-effect interactions, and curvilinearity in the regression analysis of RDD. Three sets of conditions of increasing generality are reviewed. (SLD)

Gathercole, Susan E.; Baddeley, Alan D. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1995
This letter points out flaws in van der Lely and Howard's argument that children with specific language impairments have no deficits in verbal short-term memory. The original methodology is faulted for providing uninterpretable assessment of verbal short-term functions and for failure to follow memory techniques from previous studies. Sample…

McArdle, John J. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1994
Benefits and limitations of structural equation models for multivariate experiments with incomplete data are presented. Examples from studies of latent variable path models of cognitive performance illustrate analyses with latent variables, omitted variables, randomly missing data, and nonrandomly missing data. (SLD)

Stinson, Susan W. – Educational Theory, 1995
This paper explores how a dance scholar's experience in dance is represented in her educational research. Discussion covers perceptions of art, body-mind dualities in schools and educational practice, the process and products of research and choreography, and crafting the choreography of research. (JB)

Sturmey, Peter – Research in Developmental Disabilities, 1995
Analog baselines are an experimental methodology for identifying the functions of maladaptive behavior of individuals with developmental disabilities in naturally occurring environments. This article identifies potential limitations of this methodology, including: fidelity of baseline design conditions, a narrow analysis of behavior, and limited…

Patton, Michael; Westby, Carol – Topics in Language Disorders, 1992
This article describes the functions of ethnography and the primary themes that form the foundation for qualitative inquiry generally and ethnography specifically, as applied in the fields of education and communication disorders. Quantitative and qualitative methods are compared for inquiry conditions, analysis, researcher's role, orientation,…

Bergin, Ceris; Kingston, Paula – British Journal of Educational Technology, 1994
Describes a framework for collecting evidence on the impact of educational technology on learning. The framework is designed to provide a common core of evidence, have internal coherence and the ability to sustain layered objectives, be easy to use, and accommodate a range of foci and perspectives. Suggested questions for a review process are…

Bradley, Jana – Library Quarterly, 1993
Discusses methodological issues concerning qualitative research and describes research practices that qualitative researchers use to address these methodological issues. Topics discussed include the researcher as interpreter, the emergent nature of qualitative research, understanding the experience of others, trustworthiness in qualitative…

Hoyle, Rick H.; Smith, Gregory T. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1994
Defines structural equation modeling as comprehensive, flexible approach to research design and data analysis. Provides conceptual overview of clinical research hypotheses that invite evaluation as structural equation models. Particular attention is devoted to hypotheses that are not adequately evaluated using traditional statistical models.…

Rycroft, Robert W. – Knowledge: Creation, Diffusion, Utilization, 1991
Examination of the relationship between environmentalists and scientists concludes that environmentalism has had little impact on science. Topics discussed include the degree to which scientific research has become more applied; efforts to integrate and coordinate research projects; the synthesis of scientific information for policy purposes; and…

Yin, Robert K. – Review of Educational Research, 1991
R. T. Ogawa and B. Malen's article does not meet its own recommended standards for rigorous testing and presentation of its own conclusions. Use of the exploratory case study to analyze multivocal literatures is not supported, and the claim of grounded theory to analyze multivocal literatures may be stronger. (SLD)

Lecoutre, Bruno – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1991
The routine epsilon approximate test in repeated measures designs when the condition of circularity is unfulfilled uses an erroneous formula in the case of two or more groups. Because this may lead to underestimation of the deviation from circularity when the subject number is small, a correction is proposed. (Author/SLD)
