The complementarity hypothesis which suggests that A-type therapists be paired with B-type clients and vice versa was tested in an analogue study while several main effects of interest were found, the interaction of client and therapist characteristics was found to be in the reverse direction of expectation. The effect of therapist self-disclosure on patients, under induced expectations that disclosure is appropriate, was studied. The impact of social desirability on level and type of self-disclosure under varying model characteristics was studied. In the no-model condition, social desirability had no effect on the level or content of self-disclosure. Models had no effect on low self-disclosure, but did create modeling effects on high self-disclosure subjects. (NG)
