Students who dropped out of college were divided into those with a satisfactory grade point average (nonacademic dropouts) and those who were forced out due to a low grade point average (academic dropouts). Most follow-up studies of suicides are made after a relatively short period of time. The present study involved 229 attempted suicides hospitalized during the years 1933-1942.
