Describes two new vocational education programs: the Private Sector Initiative Program and the program (still in proposal stage) which was created by the Youth Act of 1980. Also explains how the National Alliance of Business has provided support for these programs and for the creation of the local Private Industry Councils. (CT)

To understand the kind of education that Black young people are receiving, it is necessary to examine schooling in the context of racism and economic exploitation within the larger society. Because economic and business interests in education are so enormous, Black community control of education is particularly difficult. (Author/GC)

Most subjects were satisfied with the environment provided by home and community. Mobility, health and social interaction were generally satisfactory. Intervention efforts should use an interdisciplinary approach that remains sensitive to the informal helping networks of small towns. (JAC)

The park and recreation department of Kettering, Ohio has begun to promote volunteerism both as a way to involve citizens and as an effective way to make money. Benefits include positive attitudes toward programs, cost reductions, and the availability of persons with special, unique skills. (JN)
