Harman, Harry H. – 1971
This is a methodological study that suggests a taxometric technique for objective classification of yeasts. It makes use of the minres method of factor analysis and groups strains of yeast according to their factor profiles. The similarities are judged in the higher-dimensional space determined by the factor analysis, but otherwise rely on the…

Suziedelis, Antanas; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1976
A method of typological analysis was applied to computer-generated 96-item questionnaire data for 100 cases, under a variety of conditions to analyze both the item-level and score-level. The results showed a considerable advantage of score-level approach in the number, size, and replicability of clusters recovered. (DEP)

Galbraith, Richard C.; Day, Randal D. – Child Development, 1978
Inspection of findings from Denney and Ziobrowski (1972), in light of problems of analysis and method, seriously questioned the validity of their reported crossover interaction of clustering criteria with age. In addition, a replication of their experiment, correcting for methodological problems, revealed no interaction of clustering criteria with…

McQuitty, Louis L.; Koch, Valerie L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
A relatively reliable and valid hierarchy of clusters of objects is plotted from the highest column entries, exclusively, of a matrix of interassociations between the objects. Having developed out of a loose definition of types, the method isolates both loose and highly definitive types, and all those in between. (Author/RC)

Lester, David – Psychology: A Quarterly Journal of Human Behavior, 1986
Systems theories of personality often describe subsystems (such as conscious and unconscious) and subsubsystems (such as ego, id, and superego). This paper classifies the major systems theories of personality in terms of the number of levels in their analysis. (Author)

Zytowski, Donald G. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1986
The processes by which Roe (1956) and Holland (1966) developed their structural representations of occupations are compared. Roe, using almost exclusively nonempirical means, formulated an eight-group circumplex, virtually identical to Holland's six-group hexagonal configuration that resulted from empirical research spanning 11 years. The…

McCormick, Alexander C., Ed.; Cox, Rebecca D., Ed. – New Directions for Community Colleges, 2003
This summer 2003 issue of New Directions for Community Colleges advances the conversation among researchers and practitioners about possible approaches to classifying two-year colleges. The 10 chapters include the following: (1) "Classifying Two-Year Colleges: Purposes, Possibilities and Pitfalls" (Alexander C. McCormick and Rebecca D.…

Hubert, Lawrence – Psychometrika, 1973
The present paper discusses two rather different types of partitioning techniques that still have the same property of monotone invariance. (Author)

Hubert, Lawrence – Psychometrika, 1972
Paper is an attempt to extend the hierarchical partitioning algorithms and to emphasize a general connection between these clustering procedures and the mathematical theory of lattices. (Author)

Rettenmayer, John W. – Information Storage and Retrieval, 1972
This study proposes and investigates file ordering and retrieval techniques which, it is hypothesized, will: (a) reduce the average cost of retrieving records which satisfy a query, and (b) increase the rate of retrieval in the initial portion of the response period. (8 references) (Author)

The Smoking Control Research Project showed that most smokers wish to quit and that many of them can. It is necessary to present these smokers with the opportunities to quit, and then make the environment supportive of nonsmoking. Presented at the University of California Extension Course, "Cigarette Smoking: Insight into a Perplexing Problem,"…
