A study of the adjustment of third-, fourth-, and sixth-year university students in the humanities, sciences, and medicine in a Dutch university is reported. The study examined mental health variables, satisfaction, interpersonal orientations, and assessments of the learning environment across sexes, majors, and cohorts. (MSE)

The relationship between living group social climate and freshman scholastic achievement was examined in 36 fraternity groups and 18 male residence hall groups. Certain aspects of a living group's social environment were significantly correlated with the freshman members' level of achievement. (Author/MLW)

The development and findings of a student questionnaire (MOSS) concerning college climate and dropouts is presented. Survey results identify nine academic program aspects that seemed to discriminate between students planning to remain until degree completion and those planning to drop out. Changes in six measures of achievement-related motivation and confidence were tested in a longitudinal study of 138 women and 96 men during their first year at a midwestern university. Findings suggest that, for these measures, assimilation into the campus environment had a positive effect on men but not on women. (Author/BS)
