Primary prevention focuses on lowering incidences of emotional problems and promoting positive mental health where no special difficulty is indicated. An advising workshop was conducted as an outreach activity. A significantly higher proportion of workshop advisors (75%) than controls (33%) reported making changes in their advising practices when polled six months later. Changes reported by advisors who participated in the workshop were also extensive. (Author)

These centers would be staffed with professional advisors whose sole responsibility would be the academic advisement of college students.
