A statewide survey of operative dentistry in North Carolina was conducted to provide an update of operative dentistry practice and to assist the operative department at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in making informed curricular decisions. The Bem Sex Role Inventory was administered to female dental and dental hygiene students to determine whether the dental students are stereotypically androgynous and differ from dental hygiene students in sex role behavior and preference. Guidelines developed by the Section on Endodontics of the American Association of Dental Schools for use by educational institutions as curriculum development aids are provided. Within academic health centers there exists a well-established "pecking order" influencing daily life and reflecting fundamental relationships between medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health. Relationships between individual professionals and between schools within a center are examined for clues to possible change. (MSE)

A national survey of postdoctoral endodontic students on the perceived educational needs of dental faculty indicated that most endodontic students possess very little formal educational training, they perceive a strong need for it, and that they desire more training in evaluation/testing methods. Even though research is an integral part of quality advanced dental programs, many dental departments with postdoctoral programs lack faculty and other resources for research productivity.
