A survey of 268 heads of collegiate schools of nursing gathered information on college graduates entering bachelor of science in nursing programs and how this group's needs were being met. Although those surveyed personally support postbaccalaureate programs, results show few schools are considering that option. (CH)

The test equating accuracy of content-representative anchors (subsets of items in common) versus nonrepresentative, but substantially longer, anchors was compared for a professional certification examination. The problem of ethics in the practice of law is a problem of uncertainty, but also a dimension of professional competence. It is suggested that ethics must be more than an addition to the technical proficiency in legal procedure and substance. (LBH)

Is private practice a superior service delivery mechanism? The author contends that, in affording the client his choice of a helper, private practice embodies the basic values of social work and stimulates workers to become more responsible and knowledgeable.

There is no doubt that private practitioners make an important contribution to the profession of social work. It is questionable, however, whether private practice is a superior delivery system that should replace the agency-based service tradition of the profession. (Author)

Discusses the employment outlook for scientists and engineers as reported by manpower experts speaking at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The demand for scientists and engineers is increasing while the supply of graduates is decreasing, however, academic and BS level jobs remain scarce. (JR)

When occupations were analyzed, patterns of gross overrepresentation of the professional occupations and underrepresentation of clerical, sales, and benchwork categories were noted. This distortion of the world of work as portrayed on television serials was compared with the distortion already noted in the occupational literature. (Author)
