Stroke, lung cancer, and heart disease patients were found to employ denial, as indicated by the relatively small difference between their real and ideal selves before and after the onset of illness. The authors conducted a survey to study the percentage of minority students enrolled during 1974 in 109 major universities and the admissions policies of those universities.
