Kish, George B.; Donnenwerth, Gregory V. – J Counseling Psychol, 1969
Examines relationships between Sensation-Seeking Scale (SSS) and vocational interests measured by the Kuder and Strong Vocational Interest Blank, among alcoholics and undergraduates. Results support construct validity of the SSS and provide further evidence of modes of expression of stimulus-seeking needs in personality. (Author/CJ)
Descriptors: Alcoholism, Behavior Patterns, Career Choice, Individual Needs
Jenkins, Jerry A. – J Res Sci Teaching, 1969
Descriptors: Conceptual Schemes, Curiosity, Elementary School Science, Grade 4
Peer reviewedHansen, Jo-Ida C.; Swanson, Jane L. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1983
Confirmed the validity of the Strong Campbell Interest Inventory (SCII) in predicting majors of college students (N=615). A second study determined the differential effect of stable and unstable interests using the same sample and found most students have very stable interests. The SCII is more predictive for satisfied students. (Author/JAC)
Descriptors: College Students, Followup Studies, Higher Education, Interest Inventories
Peer reviewedOmizo, Michael M.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Construct validity data found some support for the California Occupational Preference System constructs when its results were evaluated on a sample of 213 female undergraduates relative to the Vocational Preference Inventory results. (PN)
Descriptors: College Students, Correlation, Females, Higher Education
Peer reviewedBest, Steve; Knapp-Lee, Lisa – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
Similar scales on the California Occupational Preference System (COPSystem) Interest Inventory and the Kuder General Interest Survey were compared in terms of correlations between the scales. The results of comparing the three highest interest areas are interpreted as supporting the construct validity of the two instruments. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Career Choice, Interest Inventories, Junior High Schools, Occupational Tests
Peer reviewedResnick, Harvey; And Others – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1982
Investigated the prevalence and correlates of math anxiety among college freshmen (N=1,045) and studied its dimensionality based on one measure of math anxiety, the Math Anxiety Rating Scale (MARS). Results indicated most college freshmen reported low levels of math anxiety and that there were no large sex differences. (Author)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, College Students, Factor Analysis, Higher Education
Prediger, Dale J. – Vocational Guidance Quarterly, 1981
Describes procedures and applications for translating the scores from vocational interest inventories into regions on a world-of-work map. Suggests the procedure can be used in both vocational guidance and research to provide a basis for better understanding of vocational choice and development. (JAC)
Descriptors: Career Choice, Career Development, Career Guidance, Counseling Techniques
Peer reviewedAllen, Lawrence R. – Journal of Leisure Research, 1982
A study attempted to identify a typology of leisure activities based on the interests of college students and to determine the degree of relationship between personality needs and the identified leisure typology. Findings suggest that a general pattern of leisure interests does exist for a specified population. (Author/JN)
Descriptors: College Students, Individual Needs, Interest Inventories, Leisure Time
Peer reviewedDolliver, Robert H. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1981
Reviews four studies of the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory (SCII) twin occupational scales and correlations developed showing the degree of similarity in results of those four studies. Findings indicate counselors need to know average female and male test-taker scores on other-sex occupational scales to make accurate SCII test interpretations.…

A New Counselee Assessment-Occupational Exploration System and Its Interest and Aptitude Dimensions.
Peer reviewedDroege, Robert C.; Padgett, Adaline – School Counselor, 1982

Descriptors: Career Counseling, Interest Inventories, Job Analysis, Occupational Clusters
Juni, Samuel; Koenig, Esther J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1982
Critiques the Jackson Vocational Interest Survey. Found the randomized technique of matching statements into forced-choice item pairs is a major flaw in the instrument. Explores conceptual issues arising when item clustering is used with forced-choice statement matching. Introduces contingency validity in item construction. (R)
Descriptors: Forced Choice Technique, Interest Inventories, Item Analysis, Psychometrics
Peer reviewedLaing, Joan; And Others – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1982
Four propositions for interest-inventory validity and J. L. Holland's hexagonal classification system were synthesized in order to adapt a traditional procedure for determining the construct validity of occupational interest scales to the validation of basic interest scales. Results supported this procedure to assess construct validity using basic…

Wiggins, James D. – Vocational Guidance Quarterly, 1982
Studied retired teachers (N=102) representing five subject areas that were related to the Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, and Conventional Scales of the Vocational Preference Inventory. Results indicated congruence between tested and environmental codes, especially in artistic and conventional areas. (RC)
Descriptors: Interest Inventories, Measures (Individuals), Older Adults, Personality Traits
Prediger, Dale J. – Vocational Guidance Quarterly, 1981
Examined validity data for 50 criterion groups (N=9,256) to determine which reporting procedure, i.e., raw scores or normed scores, provided better agreement between the occupations pursued by the criterion group members and their predominant interests. Analyses suggested that normed scores were more valid than raw scores. (RC)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Females, Interest Inventories, Norms
Peer reviewedDiamond, Esther E. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1981
The degree of overlap between scores on male-normed and female-normed scales for Kuder Occupational Interest Survey criterion groups was studied. Results provide clues to sex-typical and sex-atypical interests of these groups. (Author)
