Twenty teachers were selected to teach 20 elementary classes a science lesson featuring laboratory experience in small groups. Ten teachers were alerted to the possibilities of sexism in the physical sciences. Results indicated girls in mixed-sex work groups participate less when the teacher is less aware of sexism problems. A total of 118 upperclass students was divided into 22 work-teams in an introductory management course. Each participant was asked to use and evaluate a computer program, QUORUM, for diagnosing group problems and managing meetings. Problems found were a lack of group structure and poor participation.
