Porter, Stephen R. – 1999
Studies of 1-year retention commonly use a binary outcome (retained after 1 year, yes/no) as the dependent variable. This paper examines the use of alternate specifications of 1-year retention that include information about spring semester stopout behavior. Different types of discrete choice models are first described, Next, the multinomial logit…

James, Lawrence R.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
An analytic procedure is presented which casts sequential moderator analysis in the role of a multivariate test of parallelism of regressions. The procedure addresses a test for comparing predictor-criterion relationships for one set of measurements or multiple predictors and repeated measurements on a criterion. (Author/PN)

Udry, J. Richard – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1983
Tested the hypothesis that the inverse relationship between marital happiness and disruption will be strong under conditions of high marital alternatives and weak under conditions of low marital alternatives. Used micro data from a sample of 400 White, urban, American couples. Found no support for the hypothesis. (Author/RC)

Kippel, Gary – New Directions for Program Evaluation, 1981
Statistical techniques for identifying exceptional school progress are outlined and illustrated. Regression analyses using two sets of test scores are suggested as a preliminary indicator. These techniques would be useful to school administrators. School progress is best measured by criterion referenced tests rather than norm referenced tests.…

Shine, Lester C., II – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
An integrated study of Shine's actualized and pure single-subject behavior functions can produce more information than studying only one function. After summarizing the mathematics behind Shine's viewpoint, an ordinary regression analysis approach to the actualized behavior function is integrated with a time-series analysis approach to the pure…

Stock, William A,; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
MAT and GRE scores were equated by regression, conditional mean, linear and equipercentile methods using data from a sample that had taken both tests. The regression and linear methods were preferred, and shown to be equivalent when the correlation between scales is perfect. (Author/RL)

Tuma, June M.; Appelbaum, Alan S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) test-retest data with a six-month interval were obtained for 45 normal l0-year-old children. Verbal IQ estimates were stable, but significant practice effects were obtained on performance and full scale IQ estimates. Discussion focused on test readministration. (Author/RL)

Burstein, Leigh; And Others – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1978
The concerns of this investigation are multiple sources of complications in the analysis of multilevel educational data. Selected multilevel methods provide some indication of misspecification and can identify the direction of the bias in estimating teacher/class effects on mean class outcomes. (Author/CTM)

Beasley, T. Mark – Mid-Western Educational Researcher, 1996
Too many practitioners interpret ABAB research based on visual inspection rather than statistical analysis. Based on an experiment using cooperative learning to mainstream autistic students, hypothetical data for one student from an ABAB reversal design are used to illustrate the techniques and importance of regression analyses. Discussion focuses…

Chuang, Hwei-Lin – Economics of Education Review, 1997
Applies logit models to study youth's dropout behavior and decisions whether to return to school. Most results from the logistic regression for dropping out are consistent with other findings; however, being black is less associated with dropping out. A dropout's Armed Forces Qualification Test score, age, and out-of-school duration are…

Hoppe, Jack – School Science Review, 2002
Describes a method for calculating lines of best fit that is easy to understand and apply. Presents an example using the Arrhenius plot of a first-order reaction from which the energy of activation is calculated. (MM)

Joe, George W.; Mendoza, Jorge L. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1989
A response to comments on internal correlation for statistical analysis, as proposed by the present authors (1989), is provided. Focus is on issues raised by W. W. Rozeboom (1989). Comments by J. H. Schuenemeyer (1989) and R. Bargmann (1989) are briefly considered. (TJH)

Davison, Mark L. – Psychometrika, 1988
A reparameterization of the general Euclidean model for the external analysis of preference data and a simple least squares method for fitting the model to metric single stimulus data are discussed. The reformulated model is less general than is the earlier formulation by J. D. Carroll (1972). (SLD)

Rosenbaum, Alan; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1994
Fifty-three partner-abusive men, 45 maritally satisfied, and 32 maritally discordant, nonviolent men were evaluated for past history of head injury. Logistic regressions confirmed head injury was significant predictor of being a batterer. Implications of findings for both marital aggression and posthead injury rehabilitation are discussed. Watts, Richard E.; And Others – Counselor Education and Supervision, 1995
