Fromuth, Mary Ellen – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1986
In a study involving 383 college students, a number of small, but significant, relationships were found between history of childhood sexual abuse and measures of later psychological and sexual adjustment. However, when parental supportiveness was controlled, very few significant relationships emerged. (Author/CL)

A review of eight long-term studies on the effects of stimulant drugs on the academic performance of hyperactive and learning disabled children reveals that seven studies confirmed that stimulants do not enhance academic achievement, at least in terms of changing adolescent or adult outcome. (CL)

This study was designed to document, four years later, the progress of 52 LD adolescents who entered a special education program in the ninth grade. Of a sample of 276 offenders who earned college degrees while in New York State prisons, 14 percent were reincarcerated. This recidivism rate is lower than the 20 percent overall rate, attributed both to the offenders' capabilities and motivation and to the impact of the college program. (SK)
