In response to heightening racial tensions in their school, the counselors proposed a Black White Discussion Group which met weekly to rap" together. This group was equally divided racially and sexually, with trained black and white leaders and a counselor from the high school. Response of the participants appears to have been very positive. (CJ)

Research findings indicate that children who are unpopular with their peers play in less emotionally mature cognitive and social ways than do children who interact well socially. It is suggested that noncompetitive play in familiar environments may promote a behavior change in unpopular children. (JN)

Viability of Black, middle-class kinship groups is attributed to letter writing, personal contact, telephoning, mutual help, and ritual.
