Halinski, Ronald S.; Feldt, Leonard S. – J Educ Meas, 1970
Four commonly employed procedures were repeatedly applied to computer-simulated samples to provide comparative data pertaining to two questions: (a) which procedure can be expected to produce and equation that yields the most accurate predictions for the population, and (b) which procedure is most likely to identify the optimal set of independent…
Descriptors: Correlation, Multiple Regression Analysis, Prediction, Predictive Measurement
Lunneborg, Patricia W. – Educ Psychol Meas, 1970
Personality patterns did not improve prediction from aptitude and achievement variables in the weight determination sample and in cross-validation actually cancelled out predictability from traditional measures. Prediction of college grades from high school grades and aptitude tests was, on the other hand. both accurate and consistent. (Author)

Two problems in the investigation of predictive bias in tests, the effect of unreliability of the predictors, and the effect of excluding a predictor from the regression equation on which there are preexisting group differences, are discussed. (Author)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Minority Groups, Predictive Measurement, Predictor Variables
Peer reviewedWillson, Victor L.; Putnam, Richard R. – American Educational Research Journal, 1982
A meta-analysis of outcomes from 32 studies investigating pretest effects was conducted. For all outcomes the average effect size was +.22, indicating an elevating effect of pretest on posttest. Duration of time between pre- and posttesting was also related to effect size. Researchers should continue to include pretest as a design variable.…

Peer reviewedKrout, John A. – Gerontologist, 1983
Examined seasonal migration in a sample of northeastern older adults (N=1279). Seasonal migrants were more likely married, retired, and reported higher levels of income and education. Most migrated to destinations in the southeast because of better climate and recreational opportunities. (Author/JAC)

Peer reviewedBaum, Steven K.; Boxley, Russell L. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Tested the relationship between psychological depression and feeling old in 308 older adults. Results indicated that regardless of age, people who felt older were more depressed and less healthy than people who felt younger. Depression was predicted by health and purpose in life, rather than where respondents lived. (JAC)
