Counselors working in isolated areas like Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula need special characteristics and the ability to relate to the community as a whole. Seventy six teachers and 737 social studies students from rural high schools in six states were surveyed to determine whether rural secondary social studies programs discuss topics and themes that provide an insight into rural America. Describes the use of future autobiographies, a tool which has been used sparingly in counseling and career development. College students wrote future autobiographies in 1969. In a follow-up study in 1979, they wrote actual autobiographies. Results suggest that individuals are able to develop accurate future cognitive maps. (Author/JAC)

Those students involved in roommate changes who stayed in a room and those who moved from a room could not be differentiated by any demographic or academic variables.
