Findings of the study suggest that unless residential schools serve families, the families' understanding of their children may lag and family members' development as parents and as individuals may also be arrested. Patterns of injury for institutional residents of differing levels of mental retardation were investigated with 140 mildly, moderately, severely, and profoundly retarded individuals. Rates of friendly behavior were significantly greater after six moderately/severely retarded aggressive institutionalized adults participated in socialization games.
