In order to counteract the negative conditioning of 18 years, young women urgently need four years of dedication to their intellectual and personal development in an atmosphere of positive reinforcement and respect. For the present, women's colleges are a unique means of achieving this goal. (Author)

A survey of one university's internal medicine residency graduates from 1969-79 showed 30 percent had no change in plans regarding general versus subspecialty practice since medical school, and 41 percent made final decisions during residency. The Community Cadre Network in Virginia is a local support network for helping individuals with spinal cord injuries make the transition from an institutional setting to home and community life. Investigated whether marriage-related attitudes which are antagonistic to successful marital adjustment, or maladaptive styles of marital interaction, contribute to the higher divorce rate of children from disrupted marriages. A middle-class adolescent peer group was examined, using ethnographic techniques, to describe the group's relationship to adults and to uncover the adult reference group after which the group modeled itself.
