Clark, Paul A. – 1988
This case study researched how two Joliet, Illinois, Corsini 4R (C4R) magnet schools function for the purpose of measuring their effectiveness as an alternative learning paradigm to public school education. In C4R schools, students learn the four R's: Responsibility, Respect, Reasourcefulness and Responsiveness. Data generated from classroom…

Mattozzi, Enis – 1978
This guide for parents and students provides descriptions of the 22 magnet schools and 4 magnet programs which make up the city-wide magnet district of the Boston public schools. The information provided was gathered through interviews with administrators, teachers, parents and students at each of the 26 sites. Principals and headmasters at each…

Stanley, Cheryl F.; Rosser, R. Stephen – 1979
This study reports the findings of a questionnaire survey developed to gather information on the general characteristics of magnet programs and to determine the use of magnet schools in overall district integration plans. Thirty-eight of 98 districts responding to the survey reported utilizing magnet schools for integration purposes. Forty-one…

Limar, Eugene; Edmonston, George P., Jr. – 1976
The purpose of this publication is to present the reader with brief descriptions of selected alternative schools and programs operating in Louisiana in 1976. Descriptions of many of the better-known types of alternative programs are found, including those that deal with college-bound students, alternatives to suspension/expulsion, and…

Phillips, Melba – 1966
This monograph was written for the Conference on the New Instructional Materials in Physics, held at the University of Washington in summer, 1965. Designed for college students who are non-physics majors, the approach is phenomenological and macroscopic. There are three sections arranged in order of increasing sophistication. The sections are (1)…

Green, Wayne, Ed. – 1971
Intended mainly for the amateur radio operator, or "ham," this book outlines some of the pleasures to be had in amateur radio, including DXing (calling distant stations) and helping in emergencies. The steps in starting out on this hobby, including getting Citizens' Band (CB) gear, a CB license, and a receiver and antenna, are described.…

Cohn, Jack – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Shows that, as a consequence of two feasible assumptions and when due attention is given to the definition of charge and the fields E and B, the lowest-order equations that these two fields must satisfy are Maxwell's equations. (Author/GA)

Purcell, Kay M.; Henneberger, Walter C. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
The Aharonov-Bohn effect is obtained in first-order perturbation theory. It is shown that the effect occurs only when the initial state is a superposition of eigenstates of Lz corresponding to eigenvalues having opposite sign. (Author/GA)

Swartz, Barbara Myers – Physics Teacher, 1978
Describes some of the scientific experiments of Joseph Henry, his role as a scientist and an educator, his contributions to physics teaching both at the precollege and college levels. (GA)

Lambert, R. H. – American Journal of Physics, 1978
Conventional expansions of solutions to Maxwell's equations in vector spherical harmonics apply only outside the sources. The complete solution, applying both inside and outside the sources, is given here. Harmonic time dependence is assumed. (Author/GA)

Trombley, William – Integrated Education, 1977
To date, the magnet schools in St. Louis have satisfied the federal judge who has been supervising school desegregation. However, federal appeals court judges have indicated that they believe the plan falls short of meaningful integration. (Author/AM)

Reif, F.; Larkin, Jill H. – American Journal of Physics, 1976
Develops a geometric solution to be used with spatial integrals needed for finding electric and magnetic fields. The method is used in the calculation of the electric fields due to a uniformly charged plane, line and sphere. (CP)

McMillan, Charles B. – Phi Delta Kappan, 1977
Reviews the strengths and weaknesses of the Boston magnet school program. The author concludes that integration in the 1980s will need to be metropolitan and voluntary. (Author/IRT)

Metz, Mary Haywood – NEA Today, 1988
Magnet schools are popular and are spreading, but they are also resisted and resented. These schools challenge the idea that equal educational opportunity requires that the same education be offered to all students. Why magnet schools are under fire is discussed. (MT)

Russell, William P. – Metropolitan Education, 1987
In 1972 a segregation suit was filed against the North St. Louis Board of Education. The resulting desegregation order led to a coalition of Black parents and White parents whose goal was to bring about educational change and maintain stable neighborhoods.
