Peer reviewedMarkle, Allan; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Examined the relationship between outcomes of behaviorally oriented treatment for children (N=366) and eye color. Findings were consistent with theoretical expectations: Dark-eyed children and teenagers responded better to reactive treatment programs than their light-eyed counterparts, while the reverse was true for self-paced treatment programs.…

Peer reviewedAllen, Suzanne M.; Kalish, Richard A. – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1984
Explored the phenomenon of late marriage in 41 highly educated professional women. Factors associated with family backgrounds were identified. (JAC)
Descriptors: Employed Women, Goal Orientation, Marriage, Parent Attitudes
Peer reviewedForman, Bruce D.; And Others – Adolescence, 1983
Assessed the impact of stress on 94 adolescents using a brief version of the Adolescent Life Change Event Scale (ALCES). Rank order coefficients computed between ratings from the current sample and those from an original sample suggested ALCES may be a valid tool for use in adolescent stress research. (JAC)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Attitude Measures, Predictor Variables, Secondary Education
Peer reviewedTempler, Donald I.; And Others – Omega: Journal of Death and Dying, 1984
Examined the influence of sex and age on death anxiety in 165 male and 95 female homosexuals who completed the Death Anxiety Scale. Results showed gay males and females had almost identical DAS scores. No relationship was found between age and death anxiety. (JAC)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Anxiety, Death, Homosexuality
Peer reviewedMarshall, James R.; And Others – Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 1983
Used a case-control study to provide individual-based data from 5,009 suicides and 17,064 controls, describing the impact of being a cancer patient on the odds of suicide. Data indicated that cancer patients are 50 to 100 percent more likely than nonpatients to commit suicide. (JAC)
Descriptors: Cancer, High Risk Persons, Predictor Variables, Social Environment
Peer reviewedBoyer, John E., Jr.; And Others – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1983
New tests for comparing the strength of association between a variable and each of two potential predictor variables are proposed and compared to an existing test in a simulation study. Recommendations for use are made. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Hypothesis Testing, Nonparametric Statistics, Predictive Validity
Peer reviewedWalker, Alexis J.; Thompson, Linda – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1983
Used data from three generations to examine the association of intimacy to aid and contact in mother-daughter relationships. Results showed aid and contact were not predictive of intimacy. In the younger pairs, the connection between intimacy and contact between visiting and telephoning was conditional on geographical distance. (JAC)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Daughters, Helping Relationship, Mothers
Peer reviewedGreen, Bert F. Jr. – Psychometrika, 1976
A summary and interpretation of the recent literature on the indeterminancy of factor scores is given in simple terms. A good index of factor score determinancy is the squared multiple correlation of the factor with the observed variables. (Author)
Descriptors: Correlation, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Multiple Regression Analysis
Macmillan, M. B. – Research Quarterly, 1976
Data on motions involved in kicking a football were subjected to multiple regression analysis to ascertain the kinesiologic determinants of the foot's arcing motion. (GW)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Football, Kinetics, Measurement Techniques
Menard, Scott – 2002
Being a victim of crime is a relatively common experience for both adolescents and adults. However, victimization is more widespread among adolescents, and its relationship to various problem outcomes tends to be stronger among adolescent victims than adult victims.
