Peer reviewedHoge, Dean R.; Bender, Irving E. – Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 1974
Value changes among three groups of Dartmouth College students are examined as studied between 1931 and 1956 and restudied as alumni between 1952 and 1969. (Author/KM)
Descriptors: Adults, Attitude Change, College Graduates, College Students
Peer reviewedSowder, Larry – Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1974
Reports discriminate analyses using data from several National Longitudinal Study of Mathematical Abilities (NLSMA) measures for two groups from the NLSMA Y-population, high and low geometry achievers. The analysis correctly classified from 75 percent to 95 percent of the groups, depending on the measure used. (JP)

Peer reviewedKyostio, O. K. – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1973
Article considers predictive factors in determining student success in secondary school and the correlation of social status and other variables. (RK)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Admission (School), Correlation, Educational Research
Peer reviewedAshbaugh, Jo-Ann; And Others – Journal of Educational Research, 1973
The present study was undertaken to investigate differences in high school performance scholastic aptitude, and achievement motivation between disadvantaged college students who persisted successfully for 2 years and those who discontinued their studies before completing 1 year at an urban commuter university. (Author)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, College Students, Disadvantaged, Females
Peer reviewedJansen, Mogens; And Others – International Review of Education, 1972
Describes the research which uses process variables as criteria for prediction based on comparatively stable teacher variables. (Author)
Descriptors: Classroom Research, Formative Evaluation, Predictor Variables, Research Methodology
Peer reviewedMcCall, John N.; Johnson, Orval G. – Journal of Genetic Psychology, 1972
Socioeconomic factors which differentiate social-class groups vastly overshadow any within-family treatment factors that might affect intellectual growth. (Authors)

Peer reviewedReed, Cheryl L.; And Others – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1972
Purpose of this investigation was to determine whether the inclusion of quadratic and/or interaction terms in a regression model would improve the prediction of student nurses' grade point averages. (Authors)
Descriptors: Grade Point Average, Mathematical Models, Multiple Regression Analysis, Predictive Measurement
Peer reviewedThompson, Bruce – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Virtually all parametric statistical procedures have been shown to be special cases of canonical correlation analysis. This article proposes a logic for conducting stepwise canonical correlation analyses, based upon evaluation of canonical communality coefficients. The procedure is a direct analogue of stepwise multiple regression. (Author/RD)
Descriptors: Correlation, Multiple Regression Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, Predictor Variables
Peer reviewedJenkins, Joseph R.; Dixon, Robert – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1983
The question of how to account for the growth of vocabulary knowledge that occurs during the elementary school years is addressed. Areas examined include the ways that word meanings are communicated, direct teaching of meanings, vocabulary instruction as part of reading instruction, and deriving and learning word meanings from verbal context.…

Peer reviewedHaber, Gilda Moss – Journal of Offender Counseling, Services & Rehabilitation, 1983
Studied the backgrounds and adjustment patterns of 118 Black male prisoners to measure the impact of a college education on offenders, ex-offenders, and the never-incarcerated. Results suggested the college students were more aggressive and more highly motivated, while non-students tended to be more insecure and had a lower self-image. (JAC)
