Issues of Environmental Education and Development of Green Economy in Contemporary Universities of Kyrgyzstan
Education in the Asia-Pacific Region: Issues, Concerns and Prospects
In recent years, the concept of a green economy has gained significant attention and importance worldwide. In a time when the global community is grappling with issues such as global warming, environmental degradation, and diminishing water resources, the green economy has emerged as a promising solution, making it possible to integrate economic growth with environmental sustainability. This research aims to assess the awareness and understanding of the need for practical implementation of green economy principles in the academic community and formulate recommendations for enhancing environmental education. The qualitative research method was employed, involving surveys of professors and students from various universities in Kyrgyzstan. The authors analyzed and synthesized the results to formulate the main research conclusions. Since the implementation of solutions largely depends on public awareness and understanding, educating future generations about the causes and consequences of global warming is crucial. Universities undoubtedly play a leading role in modeling the green economy, where bridges need to be built between academic institutions and their communities. The research revealed the insufficient prevalence of the term green economy in the academic environment. However, the survey results from professors and students indicate their willingness to be involved in the adoption of green economy principles. Based on the research, the authors developed recommendations to improve the state's environmental protection policies, advance environmental education for the population, and define the pivotal role of universities in promoting green economy principles.
