Creating Impactful Change: An Exploration of Art Therapists Experiences Related to Social Entrepreneurship
Jennifer M. DeLucia; Rachel K. Linsner
Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, v42 n2 p62-74 2025
Social entrepreneurial skills are becoming increasingly valuable for art therapists. A mixed-methods survey was administered to practicing art therapists with a master's degree or equivalent. The purpose was to better understand their experiences with entrepreneurial and leadership skills. Qualitative data was analyzed for themes using grounded theory techniques, and quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS. Results highlight skills art therapists use frequently, the type/amount of training received, and how their experiences as artists/therapists inform these skills. The study proposes that art therapists draw from the field of social entrepreneurship to advance socially oriented goals and community-based practices within art therapy.
