A Faculty-Led Approach to Highlighting Teaching Effectiveness beyond Awards
Holly Hawk
Journal of Faculty Development, v39 n3 p92-94 2025
Faculty recognition plays a significant role in faculty engagement and development, yet traditional awards often fail to capture the full scope of teaching effectiveness. This article explores an innovative approach through a college-wide Teaching Effectiveness Advisory Group (TEAG), designed to assist faculty in developing artifacts that highlight their teaching success. TEAG provides structured support for self-assessments, student-driven feedback, and peer evaluations that highlight classroom effectiveness. By integrating multiple perspectives, the advisory group offers personalized support and strategies for faculty to create teaching portfolios. The article outlines best practices and practical suggestions for institutions developing similar faculty development programs.
