The "Infinite Classroom": Preparing Students for the Real World in Comics Courses
Joanne Britland
Hispania, v108 n3 p357-361 2025
This article discusses the author's experiences teaching an undergraduate course, Graphic Narrative in the Hispanic World, in order to share some strategies to help students recognize how the study of comics and other humanities disciplines can help them develop crucial skills for their success and career readiness. The article first outlines the course objectives and setup and then examines how students interact with the community, categorizing the approach into three distinct phases: (1) tapping into campus resources; (2) building relationships with the local community; and (3) connecting students with a broader network of global scholars, authors, and artists. Some of these strategies might depend on certain resources that are not available at all institutions, therefore, possibilities to adapt these approaches are offered.
