A study by the Association of Governing Boards that categorized current selection methods and analyzed criteria for trustee selection in public and private institutions is discussed. Three methods of trustee selection are identified: appointment, election, and service by virtue of position. (MLW)

Some thoughts on governing board chairperson and president relationships are offered: mutual expectations must be clear, the president must be teacher to the institution's various publics and especially the board, a president should avoid any private or personal agreements with individual board members, etc. (MLW)

The educational concerns of the members of 141 Missouri Park Boards are discussed. A table with 16 major concerns is included in the text. The author feels that perhaps the most important element to a park board's successful operation is that of orientation and training for its members. (JMK)

Recent court decisions are holding that state laws on open records require immediate release to the press of the names of all candidates being considered for university presidencies. Two concerns are discussed: the privacy of the individuals and the integrity of the selection process. (MLW)

The experiences of Cuyahoga Community College when its board of trustees dwindled to six members are described. Their tripartite committee system was abandoned in favor of a committee-of-the whole format and stronger orientation measures were developed to accommodate the impending influx of new trustees in the years ahead.
