Examines the findings of demographer Reynolds Farley, a professor at the University of Michigan, who states that cities which maintain segregated schools have lost white students at about the same rate as cities undergoing school integration. (Editor/RK)

Peer reviewedFernandez, Edward; Cardenas, Manuel – NASSP Bulletin, 1976
After reading about the problems of absenteeism in recent issues of the NASSP Bulletin, the authors felt other readers would like to know about the plan the Las Cruces (N.M.) schools implemented. They say the plan curbed absenteeism considerably and report the data to support their conclusion. (Editor)

Peer reviewedFreund, Joe S.; Witte, Kenneth L. – American Journal of Psychology, 1976
The present study examined the effects of two variables, association value (low, high) and length of anticipation interval (3 sec, 6 sec) on the paired-associate transfer performance of young and elderly adults in the A-B A-B paradigm. (Editor)
Descriptors: Charts, Data Analysis, Demography, Hypothesis Testing
Peer reviewedHealy, Lulu; Hoyles, Celia – Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, 1997
Discusses the use of databases in order to encourage students to test hypotheses, generate conjectures, and interpret trends in data. Describes "Storybook Project" in which a survey of gender bias in children's storybooks is conducted. Grass database is used for data gathering and students interpret and discuss their results. (ASK)
Descriptors: Computer Uses in Education, Data Analysis, Databases, Junior High Schools
Peer reviewedMowbray, Carol T.; Luke, Douglas – Evaluation and Program Planning, 1996
Articles in this special issue suggest improvements in longitudinal program evaluation to meet the challenges of evaluation of human services programs. Contributions describe innovations in design, methods, data analysis, utilization, and interpretation of the findings of longitudinal studies. (SLD)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Evaluation Methods, Evaluation Research, Evaluation Utilization
Peer reviewedBakeman, Roger; Rojewski, Jay W. – Exceptionality, 1997
Describes, demonstrates, and promotes the use of log-linear analysis in research that investigates categorical variables associated with the study of career development and transition for individuals with disabilities. Formulas used by chi-square and log-linear analyses are presented, and log-linear analysis is demonstrated using data from a…

Peer reviewedBouchard, Denis – Sign Language Studies, 1996
Discusses arguments that support the position regarding the distribution of non-grammatical markings of negation and of "wh"-scope and emphasizes the importance of looking for deep unifying principles in cross-modal studies of American Sign Language in order to further understanding of Universal Grammar. (33 references) (Author/CK)

Peer reviewedDominguez, Alberto; de Vega, Manuel – Language and Cognitive Processes, 1997
Notes that, in Spanish, there is empirical support for the notion that, in visual word recognition, the syllables initially activate competing lexical candidates. Presents experiments intended to explore these inhibitory processes and discusses the applicability of the data to a dual-route model and the time course of syllabic processing. (55…
