This study addresses itself to the development of a valid method for identifying a high-risk group of preschool children. The design used is longitudinal and attempts to relate early child and parent behavior patterns to various outcome measures as the child grows older. This paper reports the behavior patterns of a group of two-year-olds and how…

Goolsby, Thomas M., Jr.
Factor analysis was used to summarize the interrelationships between a large and varied collection of measures. Data for 500 third grade students assigned to either an experimental or a comparison condition were obtained. The data covered scores for the first 28 items of the Student Affective Behavior Checklist, (2) 9 nonmathematics subtests of…

Adkins, Dorothy C. – 1968
An objective measure of motivation to achieve for preschool children called Gumpgookies is described. It is an objective-projective technique that requires choice between two alternate types of behavior portrayed in pictures and accompanying verbal descriptions. Gumpgookies are amoeba-like creatures who behave in ways intended to show differences…

Harris, Margaret L.; Harris, Chester W. – 1971
Three systems for defining general cognitive abilities were analyzed to determine the nature of possible reference tests for cognitive abilities. They are the Guilford analysis of cognition, Guttman's facet design, and the Primary Mental Abilities of the Thurstones. This analysis led to a fourth schema for classifying abilities that deal with…

MacDonald, Randolph – 1971
A factor analysis of test data measuring the results of the Appalachia Preschool Education Program is presented. The program involved three treatments for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old children. A control group as well as the three treatment groups was tested. A total of 20 subtests was administered; the scores on these comprised the variables that were…

Orpet, Russel E. – 1972
An age-normed test battery was developed for use as a research instrument to assess strengths and weaknesses in the sensory-motor development of elementary school age children. The importance of sensory-motor functions for the child's total development and learning is noted. The experimental sensory-motor test battery consists of 12 subtests, and…

CRAMER, M. RICHARD; AND OTHERS – 1966
DEMOGRAPHIC CORRELATES OF EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCE LEVELS WERE EXAMINED BY COUNTY IN THE 11 EX-CONFEDERATE SOUTHERN STATES TO FIND OUT WHETHER THE SAME VARIABLES PREDICT PERFORMANCE FOR BOTH NEGRO AND WHITE STUDENTS IN THE SAME WAY. DATA WERE DERIVED MAINLY FROM U.S. CENSUS REPORTS AND FROM MATERIALS OF STATE AND LOCAL DEPARTMENTS OF EDUCATION.…

Miller, Michael K.; Crader, Kelly W. – 1976
Using interview data collected from 595 subjects living in 5 Utah counties, 2 dimensions of community satisfaction (economic and interpersonal) were identified via factor analysis. Employing a theoretical framework of rural-urban differences, the impact of residence on the two dimensions of satisfaction was tested by regression analysis and found…

Redfield, Kent; Gore, William – 1975
Concurrent with a needs assessment and community input study, a research team undertook two behavioral science research efforts. The first was an identification and examination of the influence network through which local leadership was organized. The second was an examination of how those who constituted the network of policy-making influentials…

Hightower, A. Dirk; And Others – School Psychology Review, 1987
This article describes the development of the Child Rating Scale (CRS), a socioemotional self-rating scale for elementary school children. Four CRS factors (rule compliance/acting-out, anxiety/withdrawal, interpersonal social skills, and self-confidence) were found consistently across four independent samples totalling more than 2,000 elementary…

Gardner, P. L. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1987
Discusses the complicating effects of ambivalence on the validity of science attitude measurement scales. Cites studies indicating that the positive and negative effects about a particular psychological object are not necessarily bipolar. Suggests the use of factor analysis to check dimensionality in instruments. (TW)

Wolfe, Joseph; Box, Thomas M. – Simulation and Games, 1988
Discussion of teamwork and group decision making focuses on study of undergraduates conducted to identify the variables that affect team cohesion in a business game. A literature review on small groups and business games is presented, hypotheses tested are described, discriminant analyses are explained, and suggestions for further research are…

Jensen, Arthur R. – Intelligence, 1985
The author refutes Humphrey's test of the Spearman hypothesis. A fair test requires that Black and White samples not be selected on any g-correlated variable, including socioeconomic status. Humphrey's factor analysis on test-score means of demographic groups, rather than on individuals, inflates g loadings and biases results. (LMO)

Rubin, Alan M. – Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, 1985
This study of U.S. college students' soap opera viewing habits investigated their motives; interrelationships among motives, audience viewing dispositions, and life patterns; whether viewing dispositions and life pattern variables explain viewing motives; and what multivariate structures explain relationships between viewing motives, viewing…

Aubrecht, Judith; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Two large samples of high school teachers were rated for teaching effectiveness by the teachers and by their students, using the IDEA Form H. Factor analyses yielded highly similar underlying dimensions. Convergent validity coefficients were significant for all factors, supporting the validity of student ratings. (Author/GDC)
