Assuming that many undereducated adults resisted schooling in early years and are now resisting adult basic education (ABE) programs for similar reasons, this study examines young adults in literary fiction who resisted schooling. Implications and recommendations for ABE research are discussed. (JOW)

Determining how best to identify gifted and talented children can be a major obstacle to establishing successful programs. This article enumerates eight major problems or issues related to the identification of these children. Future research and theoretical development must be directed toward a resolution of these issues. (MT)

Achievement motivation in women is discussed in the context of recent ideas by Gilligan and by Spence and Helmreich which consider women's development and values without considering only the ways women's behavior differs from male behavior. Seventy-three preservice elementary teachers and 41 experienced elementary teachers in the same state participated in a study to examine whether prospective teachers measure at the same conative level as practicing teachers.
