Discusses the one-sided rules and attitudes in schools which may inhibit learning, and how to recognize and circumvent them. Children should have a broad continuum between a soft" or permissive school, and a hard" or strict curriculum, and will choose the place on this continuum where they learn best. (DM)

An individualized approach to instructional improvement that pairs a teaching consultant with a faculty member (Teaching Improvement Consultation Program) is described. The model uses the faculty member's experiences and thoughts about the the experiences as the starting point for examining and analyzing teaching issues and practices. (MLW)
