A prescriptive moral guidance approach to teaching nursing ethics is unacceptable. Students should be introduced to philosophical methods to learn autonomous analysis and decision making. Case-study material based on personal experiences enhances the integration of ethical reasoning and clinical practice. (SK)

In a nursing program, 28 students participating in group service-learning projects were compared to 16 who did other group work. Surveys, focus groups, and feedback from community partners showed that service learning contributed to group collaboration and the development of research skills. (SK)

Of 184 nurse educators surveyed, 50% reported that students performed well on 21 of 60 computer literacy skills. Only 3 of 60 were being integrated into teaching practice. Faculty competence in performing these skills was correlated with their integration into teaching. (SK)

A survey of 71 nursing students in a Web-based course found that the format increased collaborative learning and improved computer skills. Graduate students were more confident that the course helped them understand concepts and ideas. Access, time, and computer skills were the largest barriers to learning. (SK)
