Gervasoni, Ann – International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education, 2005
This paper examines the learning needs of 35 Grade 1 children and 60 Grade 2 children who were identified as vulnerable in their number learning on the basis of a clinical interview and reference to a set of research-based growth points. All children were selected for an intervention program that aimed to accelerate learning in four number…

Carpenter, Thomas P.; And Others – Mathematics Teacher, 1983
Results from the third national mathematics assessment indicate that the decline in performance of 17 year olds between 1973 and 1978 has leveled out over the last four years, and 13 year olds' performance improved significantly between 1978 and 1982. However, most gains were on lower-order skills. (MNS)
