Study suggests that teachers judge pupils in terms of an ideal, a student with average or above-average aptitude. Hostile attitudes toward slow learners may be a result of this expectation, rather than indication of personality, with role distance being a particular adjustment made by untrained teachers of slow learners. A study of two elementary students (age 12) with reading difficulties compared the effects of rapid oral presentation and slow oral presentation on rates of accurate oral rereading during listening previewing.
